Workshop tips regarding air springs and level control

DT Spare Parts

The new Parts Specialists video is now online

This time, the new Parts Specialists video is about exchanging a truck’s air spring and the level control. The Parts Specialists from Diesel Technic show their viewers the error patterns which can arise within the area of an air springs and what they should look out for a correct exchange.

Lars and Kevin are dealing with a truck, which has a loss of pressure on the rear axle. Using the panel the vehicle is raised up at the back and a jack is used to check whether there is pressure loss in the air springs. The duo quickly determines that one of the air springs has a hole and as a precautionary measure they remove the other one to look on the test bench whether it also has a leak. There in the test basin they notice little air bubbles leaking at different points and as a result they determine the item is not sealed so the Parts Specialists exchange both air springs.

Air spring defects arise, for example, as a result of an overtightened nut or through foreign objects that cause chafe marks and wear down the material. Another error pattern that Lars and Kevin address is thermal overloading.

In the next step, Lars and Kevin look at the level control problem and carry out the necessary checks. As the resistance value is OK and the plug looks clean, they both suspect that the sensor is defective. The Parts Specialists provide all of the details in their video: https://youtu.be/EgI9It6rwBs

Alongside air springs, the DT Spare Parts range also has level valves. The different versions, like e.g. for the driver’s cab or for trailers can be found in the Partner Portal.
