Repair instead of replacing

Headlight adjustment: Correct light pattern ensures safety

After each repair of the headlight system, the light must be checked with a suitable headlight adjustment device and corrected if necessary. “Make sure that any built-in option for switching between right-hand and left-hand traffic is not accidentally activated during the repair”, explains Rolf. This massively affects the illumination of the road: While the right-hand side of the road is illuminated by a 15° line rising to the right when driving on the right, the left-hand side of the road is illuminated when driving on the left.

An incorrectly installed headlight bulb can severely disrupt the light pattern. The consequences are insufficient illumination and blinding of oncoming traffic. In the worst case, incorrect installation can also lead to the reflector melting due to excessive heat development.

• Xenon headlights work at extremely high voltages. Care must therefore be taken when working on them.
• When adjusting headlights with electric height adjustment, remember that the rotary switch in the dashboard must be set to “0”.
• Electrical components must always be connected according to the wiring diagram.
• If there is an open seal when replacing the cover lens, the joint of the seal must point downwards to prevent water ingress.
• Sealing caps must also be inserted correctly; this is essential for the tightness.
